Cosmetology Instructor
Job Description
Northwest College of Hair Design (“NWC”) is searching for Cosmetology Instructors at its Medford Oregon Campus. We are looking for part-time evening instructors and full-time evening instructors – Monday through Friday – Full license preferred, two licenses considered. Need Nail licenses so Nails only would be fine!
The qualified candidates will have excellent skills in communication, business management and teambuilding, as well as cosmetology industry credentials and licenses. Experience in multiple aspects of cosmetology education is required. Full licensed professionals are preferred. Candidates with two licenses will be considered.
SUMMARY
NWC Instructors are responsible for classroom and salon floor instruction, practical and hands on instruction and supervision to ensure students at all levels learn essential techniques, skills and attributes necessary to be successful in the Spa/Salon environment. In addition, instructors supervise students and provide subject matter that will contribute to their development and proficiency as Cosmetologists.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Execute lesson plans for classroom instruction that provides effective teaching strategies under the Department of Education, NACCAS, and NWC guidelines.
Instruct students in the classroom, as well as on the salon floor, using valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of NWC’s programs.
Coach and mentor students who have difficulty in a learning environment and on the salon floor.
Consistent and regular attendance is required. Late arrivals and early departures will not be acceptable. Exceptional attendance for all instructors is essential with student schedules.
Provide information on the latest trends in the industry, including staying up-to-date on trade publications, networking with peers, and participating in trade organizations and conferences.
Plan and develop various student learning activities applicable to hands-on lab work, practical demonstrations, and techniques that motivate students.
Prepare materials, coordinate guest speakers, field trips and other media that will provide for creative teaching under the direction of the Director of Education.
Teach academic theory; assess the progress of students on a regular basis. Evaluate students in attaining goals and objectives. Regularly oversee students testing.
Keep students and administration adequately informed of progress and/or deficiencies, particularly in the event of a possible failure as well as students on leave, dropping courses and/or making any changes.
Review and regularly inform the supervisor of students out on leave, missing time/hours, and make contact to keep students in school.
Maintain student attendance and grade records.
Keep up-to-date and utilize modern technologies for review, enrichment of student knowledge and in the daily operations of the school.
Inform Lead Instructor and/or Supervisor when salon floor supplies need ordering.
Maintain a clean, attractive and well organized salon floor and ensure workstations are immaculate as well as shampoo area, floor, restrooms, etc. as per State of Oregon law.
Ensure a proper level of professionalism is maintained throughout the campus while creating a good learning environment.
Adhere and uphold all school policies and procedures and coach students to do the same.
Regularly attended continuing education classes, maintain current instructors licenses, and stay knowledgeable on the Student Catalog, Employee Handbook and all company policies.
Respect and maintain the confidentiality of records and information regarding students in accordance with accepted professional ethics and State and Federal laws.
Other duties and projects may be assigned.
EDUCATION
High school diploma or GED, current industry licenses in all areas of Cosmetology, as well as a minimum of 2 years teaching or 3 years relevant experience in a salon or cosmetology program or other instructional environment is preferred.
